I have one final insect of interest that I found on the pine tree along with the assassin bugs and firefly larvae.
I thought it was a Velvet Ant until I pulled up the photo onscreen and realized something didn’t look quite right. Like there’s no third segment. And those antennae just scream “Beetle!”
A quick search through Bug Guide and I now know it to be a Checkered Beetle/Orange-Banded Clerid (Enoclerus ichneumoneus.) Unfortunately, I couldn’t locate much info on them other than they are predatory in both larval and adult stages and that the larvae feed on wood boring insects.
