American Goldfinch

Just wanted to post a few photos of a male American Goldfinch I shot this evening after work.

There was a female present and actually visible in the first photo, but mostly obscured and I eventually decided to crop her out of the image.

Goldfinches are very late breeders, not uncommonly initiating nesting only in July or August.  So based on that fact and the way they were acting, I’m guessing this pair was looking for a nest site.  They were in an overgrown, cutover goat pasture across the county road from my driveway, so I’ll keep an eye on them and see if I can’t turn up a nest.
