A few minutes spent wandering about the yard turned up a freshly bloomed Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida,)
a “puddling” female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus,)
a male Common Baskettail (Epitheca cynosura) – a new record for me at this property –
and a predatory fly (robber fly probably, but can’t really tell) with it’s lunch.
When I took the photo, I thought they were doing the nasty. But when I pulled up the photo on the computer, I realized it would be an inter-specific relationship. So instead of sex, it was just a meal.
